Today is Your Day

Everyone needs a little inspiration to get to their next level of success. As a inspiration consultant and motivational speaker I come along side entrepreneurs, organizations, coaches and student athletes, delivering keynote presentations, customized workshops, and individualized coaching that will make a positive impact in your life.

Don't Wait

Fear is an important survival motivator. Frustration is a sign that something is off in the plan, or may need changing in our life. Together fear and frustration create anger. Anger is an emotion that can be controlled.

Learning to control the emotion helps you become an important part of your family, friendships, and a better human. It helps to know that we can be afraid and have frustrations, and this helps us figure out why we feel the way we do. This step toward learning opens doors of possibilities and can become movement forward into a fulfilling life. It takes work. That can be difficult. It is best to get out of the downward spirals of anger.

Learning is the better way through. Learning is a means toward emotional power, self-influence, and can be connecting and healing. For some this happens on their deathbeds. Last breath and that’s when learning is over. Don’t wait.

Humor & Performance

Humor can be helpful and encouraging for a best performance, even when practices can be difficult. Humor can be a choice. At the university level I am listening to student-athletes describe their experiences of humor during competition and practice, so we can get better at utilizing humor as a positive motivation. Sometimes athletes think they are funny, many are not. My research is showing that there is a need to study individuals in a real time social context at competitive levels to provide guidance for athletes needing psychological skills training, increasing motivation, creating an awareness of humor, and coping with anxiety and stress.

A favorite story is a 5’4” athlete preparing for her high jump practice, setting the bar at 6’ (her goal height), and running up to it at full speed to trying and jump over it. She crashed into the bar eight times with full intent to jump it. She came to me, a little bruised from landing on the bar, and said with all seriousness, “Coach, there’s something wrong with the bar.” She laughed; the team laughed. She then said giggling, “Just wanted to get all those misses out of the way.” Laughter and humor can create moments of relaxation and learning in a practice that helps prepare the athlete for competition.

Black Lives Matter

Whom have you reached out to today and who will you reach out to tomorrow that is different than you? Who have you said hello to and smiled with that’s not in your tribe?

Bridges between people begin with small steps of wonder.

The world is groaning. People need to be heard and acknowledged for who they are and what they are saying. Celebrate them with a small steps of curiosity and compassion and love. Say hello and smile.

Black lives matter.

Listening can be an act of love. Hearing can be an act of survival. These actions change people’s lives for the better.

Listen. Inspire. Love.

You Gotta' Jump

What do you call someone willing to sprint full speed at a bar suspended 5' to 7' off the ground, hurl their body into the air backwards blinding them from the bar they are flying over, and crash land on their shoulders into a dense compacted foam mat, with their knees hitting themselves in the forehead? Besides job security for chiropractors and psychologists, these glorious creatures of human flight are called high jumpers.

It is an incredibly challenging mental workout to believe in yourself and achieve human flight every week.

When a jumper's body and mind are tired jumpers will often run past the bar several times choosing to not jump. Fear begins to creep in and confidence disappears. What happens when jumpers do not jump? Nothing.

When a jumper jumps, whether or not they clear the bar, they gain experience and everyone learns something to help their next jumps be more successful.

As student athletes, teachers, entrepreneurs, coaches, and boards of directors, all of our failed attempts carry the greatest learning ever. Set the bar high and capture your school's record. Design outrageous learning objectives centered on the learner. Create superior ideas for a new business, generate income, and hire people. Take time to listen radically to your athletes and implement enthusiastic training techniques for each of them. Come up with a projected growth in revenue that makes the entire board laugh out loud.

Jump. You gotta' jump.
